Beast Mastery

OUTDATED! WILL BE UPDATED SOON!

Beast Mastery is an advanced discipline in UO-Sagas that builds upon the core skills of Animal Taming and Animal Lore. It allows players to not only tame but also form strong bonds with powerful creatures, training them to become loyal companions in both battle and exploration. Beast Masters excel in controlling multiple pets, managing their abilities, and unleashing devastating coordinated attacks.

In UO-Sagas, Beast Mastery is seen as the pinnacle of taming prowess, allowing skilled players to harness the strength of some of the fiercest beasts in the world while ensuring their loyalty and effectiveness in combat. Success in Beast Mastery relies on proper training, understanding of creature strengths, and strategic use of bonded pets.

Whether you seek to command a pack of Frenzied Ostards or ride into battle on the back of a Nightmare, mastering this path will elevate your playstyle and make you a force to be reckoned with.

Creature Levels

In UO-Sagas, every tameable creature has a leveling system that determines its progression and potential strength. Animals can be trained up to five levels, while tameable monsters have a more extensive progression, reaching up to ten levels.

  • Animals (5 Levels): Standard animals such as horses, wolves, and bears (as well as pigs) can grow stronger with training and experience up to level 5.
  • Tameable Monsters (10 Levels): Powerful creatures like Nightmares, White Wyrms, Dragons can be trained and leveled up to level 10, unlocking additional health, damage, and armor.

Leveling Mechanics

  • Creatures gain experience points (XP) by dealing and/or receiving damage during combat.
  • XP accumulation is independent of whether the pet is an animal or a tameable monster.
  • With each level gained, the creature receives bonuses to its damage rate, hit points, and armor.

Post-Taming Strength Adjustments

  • After being tamed, a creature’s overall strength is reduced to approximately 60% of its original wild form.
  • Upon reaching maximum level, the creature's overall strength increases to approximately 1.2 to 1.4 times its original untamed form, depending on its progression path and abilities.

Pet Abilities

In UO-Sagas, tameable monsters possess 1 to 3 ability slots, each of which can enhance the pet’s combat capabilities. These slots are divided into Active, Passive, and Proc abilities. Abilities vary in nature, with some providing offensive bonuses, others defensive advantages, and some offering miscellaneous effects. Followed is a breakdown of how these abilities function.

Types of Ability Slots

  1. Active abilities are triggered during combat and have a duration and a cooldown period before they can be used again. Example: Abilities like Dragon Breath deal significant damage and can change the tide of battle but require precise timing due to their cooldown.
  2. Passive abilities provide ongoing buffs to the pet. These buffs can increase stats such as health, resistances, or attack power and remain active as long as the pet is alive. Example: Primal Might increases the pet's damage output.
  3. The Proc ability slot is unique and tied to Skill Mastery. These abilities activate based on specific triggers or conditions, such as critical hits or sustained damage, making them unpredictable but powerful. The proc ability slot starts at 0/0 and must be leveled up through dedicated mastery training.

Ability Assignment and Visibility

  • Randomized at Spawn: Each tameable monster is assigned abilities at the time it spawns. The type and nature of these abilities are randomly rolled within predefined limits based on the monster group.
  • Pre-Tame Visibility: Before taming, players can only see the type of ability slot (Active, Passive, or Proc) but not the specific ability itself.
  • Post-Tame Reveal: The specific abilities only become visible after the creature has been successfully tamed.

Ability Categories

  • Offensive Abilities: Increase the creature’s damage potential, often with area-of-effect effects or high burst damage (e.g., Fireball or Claw Frenzy).
  • Defensive Abilities: Enhance survivability by providing shields, resistance boosts, or healing effects.
  • Miscellaneous Abilities: Provide unique effects such as movement boosts, debuffs on enemies, or crowd-control abilities.
