General Account Information

  • Players start with a limit of 4 characters on the account and may purchase Account Upgrades at the Eren Vendor for adding up to 3 additional characters.
  • You can be simultaneously logged in with 2 characters at the same time and may purchase Account Upgrades at the Eren Vendor for adding up to 3 additional characters that can be simultaneously logged in.
  • Only 1 account per IP is allowed. (Some exceptions might be considered however you will need to contact ronin in Discord with your request.)
  • Any attempt to bypass this limit using VPNs or other methods will result in all accounts being banned.

Account Login

At the Account Login screen, before completing the login process it is recommended that you uncheck “Autologin” if it is already checked.

With Autologin checked/enabled, the character selection screen will be bypassed. This is not an issue if you only have 1 character, but if you create additional characters you will not see the option to select them until you uncheck/disable the Autologin.

Select the Game Server

After successfully logging in for the first time you will be presented with a game server selection. Choose the first selection named “UO SAGAS”

Create a Character

Select “New” from the Character Creation menu.

Customize Your Character

You can make the following selections on the Character Creation Screen:

  • Gender (Male or Female)
  • Hair Style
  • Facial Hair Style (Will only appear if Male is selected as the Gender)
  • Shirt Tone (Select from color picker)
  • Pants Color (Select from color picker)
  • Hair Color (Select from color picker)
  • Facial Hair Color (Will only appear if Male is selected as the Gender)
  • Name (See Info Section Below)

Note: Your beginning clothing is “newbified” which is a type of “blessed” clothing. While most blessed clothing in-game will have the “blessed” tag on them with you click on them, your newbified clothing does not have any description added to the clothing. Like all blessed clothing, when you die your newbified clothing will not be transferred to your corpse – it will stay in your backpack. You may also get additional clothing items at character creation depending on what skills you select. All of this starting clothing, including your footwear are “newbified”.

Character Naming

Character names can be between 3 to 16 characters long, and can include spaces.

Character names are Unique on this shard. While unique character names are not verified at the time you create the character, once first enter the game world you will be prompted to change your character name if it is not unique. You will not be able to move or interact with your character until you have selected a unique name.

Please review the following when creating your character name:

  • No profanity or obscenity.
  • No hate speech or slurs.
  • No impersonation of game staff.
  • No advertising or URLs.

Anyone creating a character name that is in violation of the server rules will be subject to disciplinary action which may include being banned from the server. Please use common sense and don't try to test what the limit of an acceptable name is.

Skill and Stat Explanations

Your starting character is comprised 80 points in 3 Stats (Str, Dex, Int) and 120 points between 3 or 4 skills.

Read here for more information on: Stats and Skills.

Gaining Stat & Skills

You will gain a skill gain chance every time you use a skill. Each skill has one or more Stats linked to it, and you will also gain a Stat gain chance when using a skill.

On the Skills Gump, next to each skill is an option to toggle a skill to raise, decrease or lock in at the current score. Since you can decrease skills, none of your skills you choose are permanent. You have access to all skills available and how you choose to develop your character is completely up to you.

There are regional bonuses that do affect skill gain so be sure to familiarize yourself with these bonuses: Skill Gains

Characters anywhere in Adena (including the Caverns of Adena) gain double skill points for skills that are under 70.0.

Training Dummies

There are in-game training dummies for helping to increase your melee combat skills up to 25 (Fencing, Mace Fighting, Swordsmanship and Wrestling).

Veteran Hint: Many players will just find another player to be their training dummy. The target player can toggle out of war mode and just stand there and heal themselves. You can also use another character on your account to be your training dummy. When training this way, it is best to use a low damage weapon (dagger / club / butcher knife). This is also a great way to increase your healing skill as well.

NPC Skill Training

Skills can also be purchased from NPC's that would use those skills (i.e you can learn Fishing skill from a Fisher). Left click NPC's to bring up their context menu to see what skills they can teach.

NPC's will generally be able to teach from 20 to 30 points in these skills. The cost to train is based on 10 gold per 0.1 of skill gain. You must have gold coins on you to give to the NPC. To pay the NPC, dragon the amount of gold coins from your backpack and drop them on the NPC after you have made your skill selection.

NPC's do not make change, so be careful to not give them too much gold.

Skill Selection

You will be prompted to select from one of 3 preset character trades or to create your own custom selections, with the “Advanced” selection. See “recommendations” below.

Character Trades Starting Skills

Trade Skill 1 Skill 2 Skill 3 Skill 4
Warrior Tactics 50 Healing 40 Swordsmanship 20 Anatomy 10
Mage Magery 50 Meditation 50 Evaluating Intelligence 20
Blacksmith Blacksmithy 50 Tinkering 40 Arms Lore 20 Mining 10

Recommendations

Some skills are harder to raise than others, especially as a new character with limited resources. It is recommended characters use the “ADVANCED” option to select their starting skills.

Skills that can be a little challenging to raise as a new player include:

  • Animal Taming
  • Resisting Spells
  • Archery
  • Magery
  • All Crafting Skills
  • All Gathering Skills

If selecting any of these, they should be taken with 50 points.

Stats selections are usually best left at 60 Str, 10 Dex, 10 Int, unless you are starting with a Mage character which will want a slightly higher Int. Since the Str score is also the health points of the character, keeping this high is important.

First UO Character Advice

For players that are new to Ultima Online, it is recommended to start with a melee type of character. A good template to start with would be:

Stats:

  • 60 Str
  • 10 Dex
  • 10 Int

Skills:

  • 50 Healing
  • 50 Resist Spells
  • 19 Swordsmanship/Mace Fighting/Fencing
  • 1 Parrying

Go to the 3 Adena cotton fields and pick all the cotton. Take the cotton to the tailor shop and use the spinning wheel and then the loom to create bolts of cloth. Use your scissors to cut those bolts into cloth, and then use your scissors again to cut the cloth into bandages.

Store your scissors and your extra bandages in your bank.

Learn to use the in-game Assistant to automate some tasks for you. You can also copy and paste Razor scripts into the Assistant. This is helpful for skills like Anatomy where you can just target a nearby npc or player, and loop the script to quickly get you gains in the skill. It is recommended to do this first to raise Anatomy to at least 50 before venturing into the Caverns of Adena.
