Arms Lore
Overview
Arms Lore is an information-gathering skill that allows you to evaluate the condition and properties of weapons and armor. It provides detailed information about durability, damage potential, and protection values. This skill is primarily used for assessing equipment quality and planning repairs.
- Primary use: Evaluating weapon and armor condition
- Secondary benefits: Assessing combat equipment effectiveness
- Related skills: Blacksmithy (for repairs), combat skills (for using equipment)
How to Use
Active Use:
- Activate the skill through your skill menu or macro
- Target equipment - you'll see “What item do you wish to get information about?”
- Read the results showing condition and effectiveness
- Skill delay: 1 second between uses
- Range: 2 tiles from the item
What Can Be Evaluated:
- All weapon types (melee and ranged)
- All armor pieces
- Swamp Dragon barding (special case)
- Cannot evaluate shields, jewelry, or clothing
Information Provided:
- Item durability (0-100% in 10% increments)
- Weapon damage category
- Armor protection rating
- Poison presence on weapons
- Barding condition on swamp dragons
Training Methods
Starting Out (0-30)
- Purchase from NPC: Blacksmith, Weaponsmith, Armorer
- Target any equipment: Success chance scales with skill
- Use vendor equipment: Target items on NPC vendors
- No failure penalty: Just get “You are not certain…” message
Intermediate Training (30-60)
- Continue evaluating any weapons or armor
- All items equal: No difference between simple/complex items
- Macro-friendly: Can train while AFK safely
- No resources needed: Just target equipment repeatedly
Advanced Training (60-90)
- Same method: Continue using on any equipment
- Consistent gains: Skill gains remain steady
- Create targets: Craft cheap weapons/armor if needed
- Public training: Use equipment in banks/shops
Expert Training (90-100)
- Persistence required: Gains become slower
- No special methods: Continue same training
- Consider location: Train while doing other activities
- Very straightforward: One of the easiest skills to GM
Mastery Training (100-120)
- Use Skill Scrolls to raise cap beyond 100
- Continue evaluating any equipment
- Each point improves evaluation accuracy
- Maximum skill level is 120.0
Skill Cap Management
Base Skill Cap
- Default skill cap: 100.0
- Can be increased to 120.0 using Skill Scrolls
- Higher skill = more accurate evaluations

Skill Scrolls:
- AVAILABLE for Arms Lore skill
- Type: Lore (white colored)
- Weight: 90 in skill scroll system
- Requires GM (100.0) before use
Skill Balls:
- NOT AVAILABLE for skill training
- Cannot be used to increase skills

Success Formula:
- Standard skill check (0-100 difficulty)
- Success = detailed information
- Failure = “You are not certain…”
- No penalty for failure
Durability Display:
- Shows as percentage in 10% increments
- Formula: HP / MaxHP × 10, rounded down
- Messages: 1038285-1038294 (0% to 90%+)
- Example: 85/100 HP = “It is in good condition”
Weapon Damage Categories:
- Calculates average damage: (MinDamage + MaxDamage) / 2
- Damage < 3 = Category 0
- Otherwise: Category = Ceiling(Min(AvgDamage, 30) / 5)
- Shows damage level and weapon type
Armor Rating Display:
- Formula: Ceiling(Min(ArmorRating, 35) / 5)
- Categories from 0-7
- Higher category = better protection
- Messages: 1038295-1038302
