Animal Lore

Animal Lore is an essential support skill that allows you to examine creatures and gather detailed information about their abilities, stats, resistances, and other properties. It's primarily used in conjunction with Animal Taming to control pets and with Veterinary to heal creatures effectively.

Active Use (Examining Creatures):

1. Activate the skill through your skill menu or macro
2. Target a creature - you'll see “What animal should I look at?”
3. View detailed gump showing stats, skills, resistances, and more
4. Skill delay: 1 second between uses

Passive Use (Pet Control):

• Required to control tamed pets above certain skill levels
• Formula: Need 80% of pet's MinTameSkill in Animal Lore
• Example: 50 MinTameSkill pet needs 40 Animal Lore to control
• Automatically checked when giving pet commands

Examination Restrictions:

• Below 50 skill: Can only examine tamed creatures
• Below 100 skill: Can only examine tamed or tamable creatures
• At 100+ skill: Can examine any creature
• Dead pets cannot be examined

• Purchase from NPC: Animal Trainer, Rancher, Druid
• Examine pets: Use on any tamed animals
• Stable animals: Examine horses, llamas, pack animals
• Passive gains: Obtained while using Animal Taming

• Wild tamable creatures: Examine animals you can tame
• Passive training: Skill gains while taming animals
• Pet examination: Check your own pets repeatedly
• Zoo visits: Examine any available tamed creatures

• All tamable creatures: Can examine untamed animals now
• Difficult creatures: Higher MinTameSkill = better gains
• Passive gains: Continue getting gains from taming
• Consistent use: Regular examination of various creatures

• Any creature: Can now examine all creatures at 100 skill
• High-end monsters: Dragons, daemons, balrons
• Persistent training: Gains become slower but steady
• Taming combination: Best gains from actual taming attempts

• Use Skill Scrolls to raise cap beyond 100
• Continue examining high-level creatures
• Passive gains from advanced pet control
• Each point improves control reliability

• Default skill cap: 100.0
• Cap can be increased to 120.0 using Skill Scrolls
• Higher skill allows examining more creatures

Skill Scrolls:

• AVAILABLE for Animal Lore skill
• Type: green colored
• Weight: 50 in skill scroll system
• Requires GM (100.0) before use

Examination Success:

• Always succeeds if targeting your own pets
• Skill check required for other creatures (0-120 difficulty)
• Higher skill = more reliable examination
• Failure message: “You can't think of anything you know offhand”

Pet Control Formula:

• Required Animal Taming >= MinTameSkill
• Required Animal Lore >= MinTameSkill × 0.8
• Both requirements must be met simultaneously
• Below requirements = pet won't obey ANY commands
• Loyalty below 25% = pet won't obey (even with skills)
• No “control chance” - it's binary (can/cannot control)

Control Example:

• Dragon (MinTameSkill: 93.9)
• Needs: 93.9+ Taming AND 75.1+ Lore
• With 93.9/75.1 = 100% control (if loyalty 25%+)
• With 93.8/75.1 = 0% control (no commands work)

Information Displayed:

• Stats (HP/Stam/Mana), attributes (STR/DEX/INT), loyalty
• Combat skills (Wrestling, Tactics, Magic Resist, etc.)
• Food preferences, pack instincts

Skill-Based Restrictions:

• 0-49.9: Tamed creatures only
• 50-99.9: Tamed or tamable creatures only
• 100+: Any creature can be examined

Available Perks:

• Dominion (Perk 1): Pet damage bonus (+3% per level, max 15%)
• Master's Reins (Perk 2): Currently disabled/refunded
• Expert Trainer (Template Bonus): Pet XP bonus (+2.5% per level, max 12.5%) within 16 tiles

Proc Ability:

• Call for Blood: Chance on pet attack (1% per level)
• Triggers special effect when pet deals damage
• Requires mastery points invested in proc

Requirements:

• Must have 100+ Animal Lore skill
• Use Mastery Prism/Gem to unlock
• Invest mastery points in perks/proc

Pet Control Benefits:

• Essential for commanding high-level pets
• Without sufficient skills, pet ignores ALL commands
• No partial control - either full control or none
• Must maintain both Taming and Lore requirements
